Waystone partners with Kayne Anderson to launch its Renewable Infrastructure Strategy on the Montlake UCITS Platform ICAV

Waystone is pleased to announce the successful launch of the Kayne Anderson Renewable Infrastructure strategy on the Montlake UCITS Platform ICAV.

The fund launched on the 9 February 2022 and joins the Waystone Investment Solutions product suite at Waystone Fund Management.

The fund, managed by Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors L.P, is a long only strategy investing in listed renewable infrastructure companies that are involved in business activities related to renewable energy production, storage, and transmission. The fund is classified as Article 8 under SFDR.

Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors L.P. is a leading alternative investment manager founded in 1984, and currently manages over $30 billion of assets. Kayne has been investing in the energy space for more than two decades and in renewable energy infrastructure since 2013. The firm manages $4bln in liquid infrastructure and $1.5bln in listed renewable infrastructure assets at 2021 year-end. The strategy invests in leading global developers and owners of renewable energy infrastructure assets, that are leading the energy transition to low emission and sustainable energy through their capital investments. Their focus is on businesses that generate recurring cash flows driven by the wind, sun, hydro resource, grid, storage assets or regulated return regions whilst avoiding clean energy manufacturing, technology or services companies that are higher on the risk reward spectrum.

J.C Frey, Managing Partner and Group Co-Head commented:

“We are excited by the launch of the Kayne Anderson Renewable Infrastructure Strategy on the Montlake UCITS Platform and for partnering with Waystone to make this happen. As leading energy infrastructure investors for over 20 years, we first invested in renewable energy infrastructure in 2013 and quickly saw the potential for a strategy focusing on the leading global companies that own, operate and develop the wind, solar, grid and storage assets.  These sustainable companies are leading the way in the transition towards a lower carbon future by reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The strategy invests in companies that own and operate long-lived, contracted assets which help generate dependable cash flows. Over the next two to three decades, we believe the tailwinds for growth in this space will prove to be tremendous. The Kayne Anderson Renewable Infrastructure Strategy is a prime example and an extension of Kayne Anderson’s commitment and longstanding track record of investing successfully in attractive niches and real assets that prioritize strong cash flows.”

Kenneth Sim, Global Head of Distribution, Waystone commented:

‘’We are delighted to partner with Kayne Anderson and bring their long only renewable infrastructure strategy to European investors in a UCITS format. We strongly believe that the energy transition theme is in its infancy, presenting a strong long-term structural theme that Kayne Anderson can maximise long-term risk adjusted returns from. We identified demand from investors looking for a more defensive value orientated approach to the transition that is overwhelmed by high risk, growth opportunities. Kayne Anderson’s infrastructure approach offers an income paying portfolio with pure play exposure to renewable energy markets, which are benefitting from increased demand, growth and improving economics of renewable energy supply. We look forward to a successful partnership and speaking to our European clients on the strategy”
