MiFID Services
Waystone provides a range of MiFID-compliant services that meet current and upcoming regulatory requirements.
If you are building or scaling a MiFID-regulated investment strategy, you need to ensure that the relevant regulated services are performed by an appropriately authorised firm. Waystone Investment Management (IE) Limited is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland as a MiFID investment firm, giving portfolio managers access to a regulated, outsourced model for services including portfolio management, trade execution, best execution and regulatory reporting. This can reduce the need to establish the relevant MiFID infrastructure in-house, support a more efficient route to market and provide access to an established compliance and operational framework. Depending on the services selected, it may also allow execution, reporting and oversight to be consolidated within a single provider relationship.
The UK has retained an onshored UK MiFID framework following Brexit, but it is now a separate regulatory regime and continues to evolve independently from EU MiFID. Firms operating across the EU and the UK therefore need to consider the applicable permissions and requirements in each jurisdiction
What is MiFID II?
MiFID II (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive) is a significant piece of European legislation affecting the financial services environment. Its aim is to increase transparency across the EU’s financial markets. The MiFID concepts have also been retained in the UK post-Brexit. Accordingly, we provide a range of MiFID services to ensure you to meet all regulatory requirements for firms operating in the EU and the UK.

Benefits of Waystone’s MiFID Services
EU and UK fund managers who work with Waystone gain a range of operational advantages by leveraging infrastructure that is already regulated, established, and operational. Benefits of our MiFID services include:
- Shorter launch timelines for new strategies or mandates, as there is no need to establish a separate MiFID-regulated operating framework in-house.
- Reduced operational complexity, with established controls, reporting processes, and execution systems already in place.
- More predictable costs, replacing the expense and resource commitment associated with building and maintaining internal compliance, execution, and operational capabilities.
- Access to established best execution, reporting, and governance frameworks, reducing the operational burden associated with managing these processes internally. Waystone provides services including trade execution, trade and transaction reporting, product governance, and best execution.
Why Choose Waystone
Working with an authorised MiFID investment firm removes the cost and delay of building your own regulated infrastructure, while giving you direct control over execution quality and compliance oversight. Because Waystone holds its own MiFID authorisation rather than operating under a delegated arrangement, clients get a single accountable provider across the full range of core and ancillary services, instead of coordinating separate execution, reporting, and governance vendors.

Frequently Asked Questions
A MiFID investment firm is a company authorised to provide regulated investment services under the EU’s Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II). These services fall into two categories:
- Core investment services include investment advice, portfolio management, execution of orders, dealing on own account, and underwriting or placement of financial instruments.
- Ancillary services include safekeeping and administration of client assets, granting credit for a transaction, advice on capital structure, and foreign exchange services connected to an investment transaction.
Waystone Investment Management (IE) Limited is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland as a MiFID investment firm, so clients work with a regulated principal, not a delegate operating under someone else’s licence.*
Core services cover the primary regulated activities, such as portfolio management, order execution, and investment advice. Ancillary services support those activities, such as safekeeping, reporting, and FX execution connected to a transaction. Waystone provides services across both categories.
Not necessarily. Waystone Investment Management (IE) Limited holds its own MiFID investment firm authorisation from the Central Bank of Ireland, so you can access outsourced portfolio management, trade execution, and compliance support without applying for and maintaining a licence of your own.
Yes. The UK retained the core MiFID II framework in its domestic regulation after Brexit, so firms operating in both the EU and the UK need to satisfy overlapping but distinct requirements. The UK retained the core MiFID framework within its domestic regulatory regime after Brexit, although the UK and EU frameworks are now separate and may evolve differently over time. Firms operating in both jurisdictions therefore need to consider the requirements applicable in each market. Waystone provides MiFID services to support firms operating in the EU and the UK.
