Mário is Waystone Luxembourg’s Head of Compliance and Conducting Officer, and is a qualified lawyer in Portugal, holding an LL.M. with specialisations in EU Economic Law and WTO Law. For the past 13 years Mário has led compliance functions for a number of financial services institutions, including investment managers, investment firms and professionals of the financial sector, on a stand-alone basis or as head of department. Mário exercised these roles with a practical and methodical approach to compliance-related problem solving and is experienced in creating, developing and implementing compliance strategies encompassing AML/KYC processes, MiFID, and regulatory reporting and overall compliance monitoring plans designed to withstand supervising authority assessments. During this period, Mário worked closely with managers and those responsible for business development, offering advice and practical business solutions focused on commercial results.
Mário is an ALCO certified Compliance Officer and a visiting Professor of Compliance Fundamentals at MSLux Institute in Luxembourg.
