Sophia Dilbert is a Director in the Cayman office. Her practice includes a broad range of sophisticated private investment funds.
Sophia serves as an independent director on a wide range of alternative investment funds including hedge funds, fund of funds, segregated portfolio companies, private equity vehicles and related structures.
Sophia has over a decade of experience in providing independent director services and 26 years in the financial services sector. Prior to joining Waystone, Sophia was a Senior Vice President at the Maples Group where she served as an independent director on a diverse portfolio of alternative investment. Prior to returning to the Maples Group in 2012 she was Global Head of Legal at Admiral Administration Ltd. in the Cayman Islands from 2007 to 2012 where she was responsible for all legal and regulatory matters affecting the operation and overseeing the work of outside counsel. Sophia was also responsible for the implementation of all of the firm’s global policies and procedures.
Sophia commenced her career as an attorney with the Maples Group in 1996 where she spent eight years as an associate in the Cayman and London offices, specialising in capital markets and investment funds. Her area of practice also included general corporate and commercial law, real estate, immigration and employment matters. She then joined Stuarts Walker Hersant as a Senior Associate in the Cayman Islands, specialising in the establishment and structuring of investment funds and general corporate law.
Sophia graduated from the University of Liverpool with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours. She is an Attorney-at-Law and is a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association and the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in the United Kingdom. Sophia holds the Accredited Director designation from the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada and is a member of the Cayman Islands Directors Association, the Council of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange and is a notary public in and for the Cayman Islands.
