Our Impact - Waystone

      Our Impact

Waystone is actively driving sustainability across the most meaningful areas that shape a responsible and resilient organisation. Our commitment spans climate action, inclusion, social impact, governance and ethical labour practices.

Sustainability is more than just a programme, it is embedded at the heart of how we operate and grow. It underpins Responsible Growth, one of our core strategic pillars, and ensures that the way we scale our business is efficient, resilient and aligned with the needs of our stakeholders and the wider environment.

Sustainability for us is not a standalone initiative. It is a mindset that runs through our strategy, culture, operations and relationships with our clients, colleagues and partners. Our programme is shaped by a double materiality assessment which helps us focus on the topics that matter most both to our stakeholders and to Waystone’s long-term success.

“At Waystone, sustainability is at the heart of our business. Guided by our pillar of Responsible Growth, we recognise the impact we have on those we interact with and the world around us. It’s central to our strategy to operate mindfully, ensuring we remain relevant while creating positive change for society and the environment.”
Brett Sanderson, Group Head of Sustainability, Waystone

      Climate Action

Addressing climate change is central to our sustainability strategy. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Waystone’s near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets, confirming that our climate ambition is aligned with the latest science to limit global warming to 1.5°C. The SBTi has also verified Waystone’s net-zero science-based target.

      Waystone has committed to:

      • By 2035:
reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 63% and scope 3 emissions by 38%, from a 2023 baseline
      • By 2050:
reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 100% and scope 3 emissions by 90%, from a 2023 baseline
      • By 2050:
achieve net-zero GHG emissions across the value chain

We have measured our global carbon footprint annually since 2023, building a clearer picture of where our impact lies and where we can make the greatest difference. A growing share of our scope 2 purchased electricity and heating now comes from renewable sources, and we continue to work with landlords and site managers to improve building performance and expand access to cleaner energy. Insights from recent energy efficiency audits have also shaped a global checklist that supports consistent, practical energy saving actions across our offices.

Most of our emissions sit in scope 3 reflecting the activities that extend across our wider value chain, including business travel and commuting, purchased goods and services, and waste. Reducing these emissions requires partnership and we will share relevant data with suppliers to help them measure and lower their own footprint, strengthening collective progress.

Our aim is to move beyond minimum reporting expectations and contribute to greater transparency across the sector. By sharing information openly, we support collaboration across our ecosystem and help accelerate the transition toward net zero.

      Inclusion, Diversity and Culture

Our people are at the heart of Waystone’s success. We are committed to creating a work environment that is welcoming, inclusive and respectful, where colleagues feel valued and able to thrive.

Waystone’s approach to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is outlined in our Group DEI Policy which applies to all global entities. This policy fosters a culture where diverse perspectives are encouraged, collaboration is expected, and individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

Our DEI roadmap focuses on awareness, learning and participation. Colleagues at every level are supported through training, development opportunities, employee feedback mechanisms and structured performance and progression processes designed to encourage fairness and transparency. Managers play a key role in fostering an inclusive team culture, informed by guidance and support from our People and Talent function and DEI Working Group.

By encouraging open dialogue and shared responsibility for inclusion, Waystone supports a culture where everyone can contribute, develop and succeed.

      Social Impact

Waystone is committed to creating a positive impact in the communities we are part of, that our colleagues come from, and that shape our lives. Giving back strengthens these communities and enriches our workplace culture. We are proud to have long-standing charitable partnerships and will continue to broaden and deepen these relationships as part of our sustainability journey.

      Ethical Labour and Modern Slavery

We believe everyone has the right to work in fair and safe conditions. Although the risks in our own business are low, we know that exploitation can occur in global supply chains, sometimes in ways that are not immediately visible. That is why we apply our Ethical Labour and Modern Slavery Policy across all Waystone offices worldwide, even where local laws do not require it.

We take a risk-based approach when choosing and working with suppliers, and all our employees receive training to help them understand the signs of modern slavery and unethical labour practices. Clear responsibilities across our teams help us stay alert, informed, and accountable, so we can do our part to prevent harm and support dignity at work.

We are committed to transparency and publish an annual Modern Slavery Statement to demonstrate our approach and progress.

      Governance and Accountability

We are working to ensure that sustainability is embedded across every level of our business. Steering is provided by the Group Sustainability Committee, which brings together senior leaders from across the organisation, supported by a designated senior executive who serves as the board-level sponsor for ESG, ensuring sustainability remains visible and considered in strategic decision-making.

Day-to-day, a dedicated Group Sustainability function sets strategy and drives initiatives. This is supported by 35+ Sustainability Champions across our offices worldwide who are key to ensuring that colleagues are engaged with initiatives and that our work on sustainability remains locally relevant.

For more details please see the Waystone Sustainability Policy Statement which sets out our guiding principles, commitments and governance approach.

      Reporting and Transparency

Transparency is essential to support accountability, build trust, and help us collaborate more effectively across our business and with our partners. Clear, accessible reporting allows stakeholders to understand our priorities, track our progress and engage meaningfully with our work.

Our aim is to make transparency a defining feature of how we deliver sustainability, supporting informed decision making and encouraging shared responsibility for long term value creation.
