James Kattan is a Managing Director with Waystone. Based in the Cayman Islands, James provides independent director services to hedge, private equity, private credit and real estate funds with a wide variety of structures and strategies. James has extensive experience in fund governance, risk and compliance, and heads Waystone’s global team of fund governance professionals.

      Prior to joining Waystone, James served as a Director with HLSS, a listed investment company formed to acquire mortgage servicing assets, whole loans, and other residential mortgage-related assets. At HLSS, James led the company’s internal audit and vendor oversight teams and provided oversight of the company’s financial reporting process including valuation of its multibillion-dollar level 3 portfolio.

      Earlier in his career, James was a Senior Manager in the alternative investments practice of KPMG Cayman Islands, where his audit portfolio included hedge and private equity funds managed by some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated asset managers.

      James is a Registered Director with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, a member of the Cayman Islands Directors Association and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. James holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK.
