Kareem is an experienced offshore financial services professional with over 20 years of progressive management and technical experience in various sectors of the offshore financial services industry, including trust and company administration (private and corporate), alternative investments, structured and asset finance and regulatory compliance and oversight.
Kareem serves as an Independent Director at Waystone, providing Director, Trustee and other related administration services to a wide range of investment vehicles and structures and advises on hedge funds and other alternative investments.
Prior to joining Waystone, Kareem was the Associate Director in the Capital Markets Team at Vistra Cayman, where he was responsible for overseeing business development activities and the compliance and regulatory framework and service offering to persons carrying on “Relevant Financial Business”. In addition, Kareem managed a portfolio of private equity and structured and asset finance transactions.
Previously, Kareem held the position of Deputy Head of the Securities Supervision Division at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), with direct responsibility and oversight of both the off-site and on-site monitoring processes, which included the licensing and supervision of Securities Investment Business licensees and the registration of Registered Persons under the Securities Investment Business Law. At CIMA, Kareem was involved in many key regulatory initiatives and possesses a lucid understanding of the Cayman Islands regulatory framework and AML/CFT regime and is often sought out by those in the financial services industry for his expertise and counsel.
Throughout his career, Kareem has served in senior management capacities at various global corporate and fiduciary firms where he acquired extensive practical experience managing – throughout the life of the deal – complex portfolios of special purpose vehicles and corporate trust structures, which consisted of unit trusts, hedge and private equity funds, collateralized loan obligations (cash, synthetic, hybrid, managed and static), securitizations, note programs (loan funded), share trustee, holding companies and asset finance structures (sale and leaseback) for on and off balance sheet transactions.
